I have two computers, one laptop and one desktop. Both have VirusScan Enterprise and both run Windows XP SP3. I have updated the VirusScan software in the past numerous times using the autoupdate function. I have only now encountered a problem.
How to Fix Mcafee Update Failed
After clicking on Autoupdate, it runs through the process fine until the very end where the following message will appear right before it says “update finished” :
“update failed to version Engine: 5400.1158 DAT: 5806.0000”
Both computers do the same thing and receive the same message.
I tried downloading the SuperDAT .exe and it seemed to be downloading just fine until it got to the end of the download and then I received this message:
“This file was blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher”.
Again, I’ve updated numerous times in the past with no problem.
Update Failed

When you run the VSE installer manually, it executes an update task using the installation wizard. When deployed through ePO, the update task is instead launched silently.
When VSE is deployed using previous versions of McAfee Agent, the update task is automatically cancelled because the Agent is already performing the task and no event is generated.
In McAfee Agent 5.0 and later, the local update task is allowed to launch and cancel, as with previous versions, but it occurs later in the logical flow. This allows an event to be created and reported back to the ePO server.
Solution
The Update Failed event can be safely ignored. No functionality in the products has changed, this is merely a timing issue that allows an unnecessary event to be generated. After successful completion of the deployment task, the McAfee Agent initiates its own Update task, which is not canceled.
1-Try to extract the sdat and update your virus definition manually. This probably requires a system reboot
